In poker, EV refers to expected value. When choosing an action, a player should choose the one with the best expected value. This is different from the traditional concept of finding the best action for profit. An action that has a negative EV is a bad idea because it means that the player will lose money on average. However, it is the best option if all other options have a lower EV.
Lingo
Poker lingo is the language used to discuss different types of hands. Some examples include the “flop,” where five cards are dealt face-up in the middle of the table, and the “seven card stud” where four cards are dealt face-up in front of each player. Poker lingo is important in poker, especially online, because it helps you understand what your fellow players are saying.
